    325es relay issues

Driving home last night I was crusing at about 40mph when my car just shut down. I pulled over and tried to check it out but it was far too dark, so I had it towed.

I figured it was the fuel pump, so this morning I busted out the multimeter and power probe and went to work.

I put 12v to the fuel pumps (through fuse 11) and they functioned fine.
I figured it was relay/fuse related.
I swapped out the fuse (looked ok) with another, no change
I swapped the relay with a new one. No change.
So I checked voltage at pin 30. Key off 11.8v.... key on... 2.8v.
I did the same test at the main relay. Key off 11.8v... key on 2.8v.

Everything I looked at said pin 30 is powered from the battery. I'm wondering why the voltage is dropping that much with the key on.

I pulled both relays out completely incase something was pulling it down.
With both relays out, key off and on I get 11.8v to pin 30 for both relays.
I put the main relay in and it instanly drops to 2.5 for both relays.

The schematic shows one pin 87 going to the injectors and the other pin 87 from the main relay going to the ecu (pins 18 and 35 I think)

Any suggestions from here? Might pick up a spare ecu tonight and try it out.

One of the wires from pin 87 could be shorting to ground.

It was the reference pin on the flywheel. there is a nice groove where it would have sat.

Looks like it's time to do my swap. :p
