    272 cam setup?

sup guys recently my timing belt snapped on the way home from work the other day. now that i have the chance to do some head work i wanted to put a bigger cam in it. would it be a good idea for a 272? havent heard anything on the regrind brand one or the schrick? price wise would be better for me would be the regrind but not sure if its anygood. also what else exactly am i going to need to run that cam as of the valve train at some reasonable prices. first time at this soo i dont wanna go the wrong way! you guys always help out many thanks in advanced!

Definitely the easiest way, and arguably the cheapest.

272 is good for street use, nothing too gnarly. IIRC if you get a regrind, you'll have to get oversized eccentrics to balance out the smaller can grind.

I wouldn't say the cheapest. I got my 885 head rebuilt and p&p'd for 250$ along with the intake and throttle body p&p'd, painted and machined to look pretty. Had the cam sent out for 272 regrind for 80$

My friend owns a head rebuilding shop. So you're not gonna get that good of a deal. But normally the head work I had done would be 5-600$. + 100$ +/- for the cam and you still at half the cost of one of those heads.

Damn, those are some good prices. When I mocked up a quick sheet I found the costs to be close to equal between the two, which might give the Myster-E head an advantage because of easiness. I might've priced out a shrick 272 though instead.

OP, if you want specific 272 cam info try and narrow your search to 272 in thread titles in this section. If that doesn't work, try searching Shrick in titles. Cam upgrades have been discussed here at length.

You may have forgotten that our heads include brand new HD rockers with new rocker hardware. You also need to factor in that WE are providing the cores AND shipping/packing the cylinder head properly which is not cheap. Some people prefer a readily available head that's 100% ready to bolt on. This helps them avoid downtime AND they can sell their original head locally once it's been removed!

Absolutely nothing wrong with a reground OEM cam. We've sold TONS of them with plenty of customers making big power. I am running one in my own boosted 2.7L M20 engine. There's nothing you NEED to upgrade to run a 272 cam but HD rocker arms are always a good idea if it's in the budget. If you're interested in a cam drop me a PM and I'll take care of you.
