    No start.. Spins almost like a snapped T-Belt but it's not.

    Just looking for some ideas - it's on the charger now. Was having hard starts over the winter seemed like maybe alternator/brushes were going. This morning it started and ran kinda weird for 30 sec or so then stalled out. Don't see any blown fuses. Now it just turns and turns (not normal turning over sound though) and at first I thought it could be the T Belt but the engine and camshaft are rotating as they should. Swapped out alternator, brushes were toast on the old one and seemed like there was some play in the shaft. Anyway, I got the Bentley and I'm searching through on here any help appreciated.

    Start = Fuel + Air + Spark

    Follow that equation for your troubleshooting.

      Pull the timing covers and check the cam timing. There is the possibility of stripped teeth on the timing belt (they don't always just break).
      The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

        Jim is correct.

        Also, a compression test will give you good information to base your course of action on.

          Thanks guys - I didn't get too in depth with this today -havent pulled the timing covers - the distributor cap and rotor were really really worn so I replaced them. The fuel pump isn't coming on, but seems to have voltage at the relay sockets. I do not have a compression tester. I'll be able to do more methodical troubleshooting in a day or two and I have a spare fuel pump to try (dont think that's what it is though) , but definitely never heard an engine sound the way this does.

            OK so when I got the timing cover off the inside was scored heavily, lots of powdered t-belt, and the tensioner pulley came off in my hand. Haven't pulled the head yet. This past fall I did the t-belt and updated tensioner etc.. I actually had the engine out on a stand so I was super meticulous- followed the bentley and detailed online. Rotated the assembly several times by hand to make sure the belt was centered on the pulleys. I've got a pretty good idea what I'm in for as far as fixing the car, I am wondering what I may have done wrong / can avoid this time around.

              Does the engine have the stamped cam or intermediate shaft sprockets? One of those could have cracked an caused belt misalignment.
