    adjusted my valves this weekend.

finally got around to adjusting my valves again this weekend. Got my ticking to a minimum. The trick I found was to adjust the valves so that theres no play while the feeler gauge is under the rocker. That gives it the "slight" drag and makes it less of a subjective art.

There should be a bit of play with the gauge. It is a balancing act...too tight might lead to premature wear of your valve.

The way I adjusted it, there was play without the gauge.

A bit too tight in my opion. E30 engine is meant to have a faint clacking noise at startup then goes away as the temp raises (with correct oil viscosity).

The valves are correctly adjusted when there is a slight drag on the feeler gauge.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Not always, got my valves adjusted to factory spec and I run 10w-30w synthetic and I have absolutely no tick.

I can adjust the valves to have no tick too, but with a slight drag on the feeler gauge you should hear a faint ticking noise at startup. I guess it all depends on how much rock and roll you have listened to.

I don't listen to music while I drive. I did have a slight drag on the feeler gauge but I should note that the eccentrics were replaced cus they are prone to developing flat spots.
