Did I just blow my engine?

I apologize beforehand for sounding like a dumbass, I'm very new to all of this.

Last night I was coming back down to Columbus GA from Atlanta and was 7 miles away from home when I heard some clacking that would increase and decrease depending on the RPM. I tried to lug it home but the sound got very bad and there was a very sudden bang with some white smoke coming from the engine bay as I pulled over and shut off the car. I call roadside assistance and popped the hood but couldn't see shit in the dark so I just had it towed to my apartment. Does this sound like a blown engine or a thrown rod or something? I feel like the motor is just done with life now since there is over 400k miles on the car. The timing belt was last replaced by the previous owner in September of 2011.

Take off the valve cover and take a look. Could be a broken rocker.

white smoke is a sign of a blown head gasket or cracked head. Something caused coolant to leak into the combustion chamber and began to burn. Thats what the white smoke is an indicator of.

It running like shit, tells me it blew between two cylinders. As for the clacking noise, that is a little harder to diagnose without seeing the motor.

As mentioned earlier, pull your valve cover off and check the top end out.

same EXACT thing happend to mine, i skipped teeth on the timing belt and bent all my valves and broke one
