    325e coolant leak

    hey guys,

I'm trying to determine if my head gasket needs to be replaced or if coolant is leaking from somewhere else, and if so where?

My car starts up and idles fine and doesn't leak anything while idling, but after running it for 45 minutes and then turning it off, an hour later theres a puddle of coolant on the ground and my reservoir tank is almost empty. There is no oil mixed into the coolant reservoir tank and there is no coolant mixing with the oil. Also I pulled a few plugs and it doesn't look like the engine has been burning coolant.

My temp guage hasn't worked since I bought the car, but it was never a problem as long as I kept up with my fluids. Unfortunately this all started happening after running my car for a few days with my coolant check light on (shame on me I know), so probably wasn't enough coolant in the car.

If I could get any advice on this it would be much appreciated! Its at the shop right now and they say it might be a bad thermostat. Is this possible? Thanks.

The first task will be to determine where the leak is. That means inspecting the engine while it is hot and leaking, or causing the leak on a cold engine with a pressure tester.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
