    Quick question 2.7i/stroker content

I've been slowly collecting parts to do a 2.7i swap. Build thread here http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=281784

I've decided to rebuild the bottom end as well. I woul like to up the compression.

Would it be a better bet for me to just put my eta crank in an I bottom end? Will the pistons clear the valves.

I'm hoping I can do this instead of shaving I pistons or buying stupid expensive custom pistons.

I would just like to have a little more compression since I do not plan on boosting this motor

There is an absurd amount of stroker info between here and e30tech, and alot of different ways you can go about this. Unfortunately, putting an eta crank in an b25 bottom end won't do the trick. You'll at least have to shave the pistons, but I don't even know if that is possible to be honest. Someone else can chime in here about that.

I see in your thread you have head a pretty good rebuild on the head with some upgrades. I think it would be a complete waste to put that on a eta bottom end. At bare minimum you should pair it with a seta bottom end. In which case, you can simply use seta pistons with your eta crank and rods. Last time I looked into it, I believe bavauto has new seta pistons and rings for something like $500 or $600. And that should run on your b25 ecu with your chip.

But my personal opinion is if you are going to buy new pistons and I am assuming paying a shop to rebuild your bottom end, you might as well do it right and go the custom piston route. I would suggest:

85 or 86mm bore (you'll need Metric Mechanic head gasket for 86mm)
b25 rods (upgrade to lighter S50 rods for roughly $150 used)
    eta crank
    custom pistons
and you'll need a custom chip, or go standalone (~$650 for a plug and play Megasquirt from whodwho on this forum).

^that will give you a 2.8L stroker, using your parts with custom pistons, and the labor you are already paying for from the shop.

Anyway... that should at least start to answer some of your questions. Definitely do a search on this stuff, do a spread sheet of your costs on going for different routes and choose whats best for you and your goals. I think if you get into shaving pistons, and all that jazz to save some coin you run the risk of negating all the money spent into having someone rebuild the bottom end for ya. Do it right, right out of the box and enjoy your car.

Thanks, after posting this I did a little more reading and I'm now looking for a seta bottom end I'm already well over my budget for the top end, so custom pistons Are out of the question. So far with what I've spent I could have easily done a very nice 24v swap....but that's no fun lol.

I think I'm just gonna get a seta bottom end, and have it rebuilt then throw it all together. From what I understand that should give me a little more power than a b25 bottom end.
