    engine light on

    my check engine light is on and the stomp test says the coolant sensor is bad

    is it the coolant sensor being bad that is causeing the check engine light

    That will cause the CEL to light up. The sensor could be bad, the connector bad, the input channel of the DME bad, or the engine harness could be bad. If this is a late (from 9/87) model 325i/is/ic, C191 under the intake could be the cause of the fault code. The diagnostic would be to check the resistance of the sensor.
    The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
