    some leaks in my engine.

I need help to identify some leaks in my engine, I am going to change the timing belt and water pump and adjust the valves because they are ticking. I know for a fact that my valve cover is leaking but i wonder what the other gunk is below the valve cover here are some pictures:

I need help to identify where this gunk build up is coming from?

clean the motor then add some dye. drive it for a couple of days then look at it with a black light and youll see were the leaks are coming from.

If you're changing the t-belt its not a bad idea to replace the cam seal. that could be the source of your leaks at the front of the engine.

Sorry for bumping my thread, but i have another question i just recently purchased the car about 3 weeks ago. I have a receipt from a shop saying that the timing belt/water pump and crankshaft sensor were changed in 2011 with unknown mileage because the odo stopped at 194k. Is it possible they got lazy or forgot to replace the cam and crankshaft seals would it be a smart choice on doing this job the right way in a couple of weeks from now? If so I will be replacing all the belts including both seals and buying a new temp senor/thermostat also flushing the coolant is there anything else i should add if needed? How often does the crankshaft sensor need replacing?
