Mine had a clogged bleeder port. Check that.

You should run the heater on full blast when bleeding the system, if you/they haven't been.

To the points already made, if you're only getting steam it's either a leaky head gasket or there's not enough coolant in the system.

Did you take off the top rad hose and fill the system from coolant there? also helps to pull the hose on the other side of the thermostat and fill from there. The thermostat needs to be submerged in hot water to open to bleed the system. thermostats won't open in hot air.

Fill the upper heater core hose first. Then the top radiator hose.

It also moves thing quicker when you use warm/hot water to fill.

VR head gasket problems seem to mostly be oil leaks. I've used a number of VR gaskets, as have others and never had a problem.

The definitive test for cracks in the head is a pressure test, the next best alternative is a dye penetrant test. A simple visual inspection will only find gross cracks, which is what is most commonly done.

yea they resurfaced it and found no cracks, the tech at the shop suggested double checking the type of head gasket I used. I used the one from victor reinz, with new head bolts, torqued them down to 22 ft/lb, then angle torqued twice to 90 degrees.

That does sound like it it a bad head gasket.

When you replaced the gasket did you have the head checked for cracks and surfaced?

Well since the guys at the shop where I currently have the car couldn't figure it out I'm hoping that my fellow r3vlimited friends can help out. The shop was trying to bleed the system and had no luck, apparently it only steams out of the bleeder on the thermo housing. No antifreeze comes out, and since I have an m42 radiator it has another bleeder on the radiator,however only huge amounts of bubbles come out the built in expansion thank. It only takes 4 to 5 minutes for it to start heating up. The guys there believe it to be a blown head gasket, but I just replaced it before taking it to them! another thing they can think of is a bad thermostat and bad water pump. any ideas guys?
