    Got a free 90 325is!!!

One day i was driving to a friends house and saw a old run down house with a e30 parked infront looks like it hasnt been moved in years so I knock on the front door to see whats going on with it and if the owner would like to sell it turns out he "has no need for it and is tired of looking at it" is what he told me and i asked him if he had a price in mind the old man looked at me and said im not going to take your money and said if you can get it out of here within a week its yours so now the car is at my house and turns out someone tired to change the timing belt but didnt know what they were doing so i recorded a small video clip of the sound it makes cranking over if anyone has any ideas or suggestions please feel free anything will help

    here's some free punctuation: ...... ,,,,,, !!! ??? :p

also you can't directly embed photobucket vids in here, just post a link.

the belt is probably off by a tooth. You'll need to reset the crank to TDC, disassemble the timing belt stuff, reset the cam to the timing mark and put the belt back on. Congrats on your free e30!

edit: listened to it, doesn't sound too strange, but you're not getting spark.. or fuel. one of those. You should still verify that the crank and cam line up to their timing marks.

First of all this can't be a 1992 325is as the last 325i was produced in 04/1991, and if memory serves, the IS designation was dropped much earlier. Convertibles were produced through 01/1993.

I can't seem to get to the video, but the first action with the car should be to verify cam timing, then spark, and then correct fuel rail pressure.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

        Definitely not a 92 325iS.

The way it's cranking sounds like it could be 1 of 3 things...

        -Broken timing belt
        -Missing spark plugs
        -Starter gear not engaging

Sorry about that, It's a 90 325is we just replaced the timing belt had both points set perfect and all plugs are in. When we crank it over everything turns as should from what i can tell next we are going to test for spark and fuel.

take the valve cover off and see if any rockers broken. Sounds like what Kevinl said, no compression.

First thing i thought was a starter issue. I have 5 broken rockers on my e30 and when i didn't know and tried to start it it didnt sound like a solid crankning, I atleast heard some cycle noises if that makes any sense. Maybe its just my computer but it just sounds like the starter is spinning and not poping out

doesn't sound like the starter gear is kicking out. try push starting it. also check the oil please! do not start it if oil is low. who knows after it's been sitting there for so long.
