Eta intermittent no crank, sits, then cranks

My buddy has an eta with a new starter and the first time this happened we parked the car, lowered it, then it wouldn't crank. There was a click I believe but nothing. 12v battery and terminals clean and tight.

This happened the other day, so we pop started it. The car was missing pretty bad so we got gas to make sure (left it running) then it pretty much died so we pulle into a parking lot. All vacuum hoses seem ok, nothing really out of the norm or really dry rotted. I pushed one plug boot on cyl 3 a click or two and also jiggles the ground strap from the valve cover to the battery tray under the hood. The ground strap was very bad.

The car starte and drove as it should after that. I find it funny that both the miss and no crank occurred, leading me to believe a grounding issue. The pan to drivers frame ground strap seemed ok.

The car cranked and idled fine with the valve cover to tray ground disconnected however, so I figured it was irony that it cleaned its act up.

Anyone ever experience this or recommend trying some tests? I gotta check all the ground straps resistance and integrity but besides that I was wondering if an intermittent ign switch would maybe cause this.

Doubt it. Sounds like an electrical issue. When it's acting up, that's the best time to test voltage/continuity.

Had a similar issue. Turned to be the ground cable from oil pan to chassis.
