    Head gasket

So I am going to have to redo my head gasket job and that means another.08 is getting shaved off, resulting in .16 taken off in total so I wanted to get a thicker head gasket, the only problem is the only thicker head gasket I can find is a victor reins that is .8mm thicker but it cost 31 bucks instead of the other vic reins one

is it just as crappy, is there a need to get a thicker head gasket at this point

Bentley manual has specs on how much can be taken off a head before you need to get a thicker HG. That being said, the only way to really know if you need a thicker head gasket or not is to put the head on and check the piston/valve clearance.

Also, VR head gaskets are pretty much universally accepted as crap. Go with a factory gasket or Goetze.

Before having the head surfaced again, have it checked for warp and cracks. There's no point in removing more material from the head if it isn't warped and obviously no point in surfacing a cracked head.

Prolly a realy stupid question but

is there any way to check for cracks my self

I have pressure being released into my coolant system making it impossible to bleed my coolant system and my coolant over flows after 15minuts of driving

there is no oil in the coolant or vise versa

does this just sound like bad head gasket then
and can I check if its a cracked head

No way for you to check that would be accurate. You don't have to have the head shaved again. there also are dimples on the head, if they are gone you are to much gone. The best way is always clay the clearance. Do not buy a VR gasket or you will be doing this again. Factory thicky is .30 over anyways.

A dye penetrant test will find any cracks, which you can do yourself.

yea but since there is no oil in the coolant or vice versa
would it be safe to say that the pressure could only be coming areas that are in direct contact to the combustion chamber
and would that eliminate a cracked head and just be a head gasket...before I did the head gasket there where no problems with the 130,xxx motor I was just stupid and wanted to do it

It just seems like a decent amount of money for all of those different solvents you have to use for the dye penetrant test and I would like to avoid it if possible
