So I called my local parts store and told them that I needed a new coolant temp sensor for my '87 325is. The guy told me that the sensor for the "is" has never been sold in my province and they don't have it in stock. So I asked for the one for the "i" engine, assuming they're both exactly the same M20B25. He sold me the part but when I got home and pulled the one on my car off I saw that they are actually different. So what is the part number for my car? I'll post some comparison photos below, blue is old, green is new.

This engine has two temperature sensors. The one for the gauge is part number 13621357414 and the one for the DME is part 12621710512. A blue sensor, as I recall, is the sensor for the DME, but the color of the sensor isn't important, the part number is.
You don't which sensor you were trying to replace, so I can't say which part number you need. The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Seems like the one I bought isn't either of them, but the one I need is 13621357414. Again thanks.
