    couple eta issues

'86 eta m20b27... new head gasket new spark plugs and wires new water pump timing belt. car ran great for about 3 weeks then I started to notice white smoke coming out of the exhaust after the car sat overnight/few hours.

also one night of driving hard on the car the thermostat housing gasket seal was leaking coolant... but it stopped and never happened again.

now the issue I am dealing with is if I get on the throttle hard around 2.5k it begins to sputter and lose power like it gets a fuel shortage.

sorry for the long post I bet only 5% of you will read this so I will include pics so it's no so boring. Click image for larger version

What I would do to deem out a headgasket is check the compression. Low compression COULD mean a head gasket, but in order to diag a car correctly you must know that the engine itself is sealing correctly.

If it was a fuel issue, then when under load you would need more fuel to compensate for more air going past the tb. I would hook a fuel pressure gauge, read the pressures during when the sputter occurs. If it is low, could be anything from a pump, leaky fpr, injectors, etc.

White smoke from the exhaust after sitting overnight in warm weather is most likely to be from coolant that has seeped into a cylinder. A check for that is to pull the plugs, pull the main relay and disconnect the cold start valve so no fuel will be delivered, and crank the engine over. If coolant sprays out of a cylinder you have found the cause of the white smoke.

The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
