    Quick oxygen sensor compatibility question.

I have an 87 eta and am piecing together a 2.7i. I have the motronic 1.1 harness from an early 1987 325i, which uses a small push together connector for the 4 wire oxygen sensor. I have a brand new oxygen sensor for a late 87+ harness, which has a larger screw together 4 wire connector. Since the dme's (153 and 173) are all interchangeable, I assume that the signal from the 2 different oxygen sensors is the same, and the only difference is the plug.
Am I correct in assuming that I could just graft the larger style plug into the harness, rather than returning this sensor and buying the considerably more expensive early 87 325i sensor?

Everything I can figure out points to 'yes', but I want to be certain BEFORE I start cutting up harnesses.

i think the 86 and older style o2 are 3 prong/3 wire like this

versus the newer 87+ has a 4 prong/4 wire and the connectors are different.

ive noticed some 87 o2 have a push in connector and some have a threaded connector.
you can probably cut the wires and color match the wires.

make sure how many pins your harness has because i thought i was done with my car when i went to look at my o2. i tried using my old o2 with 3 pins and noticed i had to buy a o2 with a 4 pin push in connector for my harness.
