Bad Idle.. Smoke test is SAT (UPDATE - FIXED)

So I have been working on this E30 I bought for my daughter for a month or so.. New top end rebuild.

The thing wont idle correctly. I thought it was a vacuum leak somewhere but I just had it smoke tested and they found no leaks.

It idles really low and then surges up to 1k and back down. The econometer is showing 0 MPG in idle also.

    Any ideas?

Would a bad valve adjustment or bad ICV be a cause?

Test/clean your ICV and throttle body, test and adjust the TPS if necessary. Adjusting the valves is always a good idea if you don't know the last time it was done. Also, test your o2 sensor and coolant temp sensor, these can cause some funky idle problems as well.

      Thanks for all the tips.

I went full retard when I was cleaning my TPS when I replaced the head and the adjustment screws must have come loose. The TPS was never picking up the idle switch. Realigned it per the Bentley and she is rock solid 750 RPM.

      Thanks R3v!
