    E motor with I head??

    So I'm slightly confused, flustered and dumb founded.. 325es with an e intake manifold, but apparently (after looking at the #s on the head) is an I head.. I know one of the valves on that head is messed up, but my question is: why put an I head on an e motor (does. It.even line up righy with the manifold??) ? Could that possibly be the reason the car is running so poorly (minus the f-ed up valve) ? And how can I fix it?

    I am thinking about replacing.the whole motor considering the issues I've had with this one (I do NOT trust.the.block or the motor) or.., do the top end put another head on it ans call it a day. Downfall of doing just the top end.. if.the bottom end goes well.. you know what that means.

    Anyone have some input on this?
    I was also thinking of seeing. If an obd1 scanner would tell me anything..

    I need opinions!

    basically a 2.7 "i" but with even lower compression.

    Usually people swap the intake and wiring/ecu to get the superior later model Motronic.

    What you are describing would be the absolute easiest/cheapest way to get a "stroker" i engine. The e intake ports are much smaller than the i head ports.

    With the oil pressure problem you previously had, i would try to find another whole, known running engine and go from there.

      Exactly ^ someone cheaped out on the swap. It's a great cheap way to get a better power band....depending on what pistons you have of course.

      Check out the conversion thread here: 1.3-Motronic-Up-Grade-&-2.7i-How-To

        Yea I spoke to a.friend and he told me.the same thing about it basically being the idiots way of a stroker... as.for the no oil pressure problem.. that was fixed a day after I got.the car and wasn't driven. The motor was getting oil, just not the whole amount since the valve was stuck open. So with that being said... I.can get a motor for 300-900 bucks depending on condition mileage etc, and I prefer a comp. Test with it so there's no what ifs... I've already dumped enough in the car, so I want.to do the cheapest but best/ safest way. So if I did just the head,. What are my.chances of the bottom end going bad?

          What do you have more of right now, time or money?

          Time= try the head.

          Money= buy a known engine.

                  Is it a bad rocker? For what you'll be doing for a proper swap you might as well build the "stroker" again since you already have an 885 head. You are totally going to want to upgrade to the "i" computer/harness, unless of course you just stick with an ETA....which as I said I found a great one from a 528e today. Not sure exactly where you're located but I'm also sure there might be some near by left over from someone else's swap.

                  Side note: what else have you done to the car that's been a $ drain?

                      Yeah damn! Best bet would be getting an eta motor for now and then save to do a full I swap. Eta will be cheaper to purchase, you already have all new components of what fails most, and will get you on the road fast so you can get to saving for a better motor!

                      Unless of course you have the $ and ability to dump ~500 more to do the i swap or build a 2.7i. Depends on what your final plan for the car will be of course.
