    stomp test and CEL question

Okay so, both my e30's have been a 86 325e, and a 87 325e. The stomp test has never worked on either, I am assuming it's because they are both early models but if im wrong please let me know. I have removed the cluster, and replaced the bulbs, and have looked for the CEL but didn't see it. I swapped the engines in both, but not the cluster I just replaced the rpm guage. I thought it would work with the newer engine, and ecu, but nothing. I have read that it works I think from 1984 to 1995 b ut never been able to get it to work with either of my cars, so please help me out and let me know what I need to make it work.

The stomp test only works on car with a 173 or later DME. I believe the 173 DME was introduced late in 88.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Yeah I have the 173 in my DD, but I think I just need to get aate model I cluster. I just want to see it work haha. After a couple years of guess work diagnostics, it would help to see what is electronicly going on rather than pointing at the numerous of parts that could be the cause of the problem. Thanks for the help guys

Other than being a holder for the CEL, the cluster has nothing to do with whether the stop test works. Since you have a 173 DME, the test not working would be a bad or misadjusted TPS, or an inop CEL bulb.
