Hi there -- long story short I am swapping out a blown motor in my 1986 325e with a good one from a 1987 528e. I already know about the little things that must be swapped in order to make the 5 motor fit in the 3, like the oil pan, motor mounts, and possibly oil pump.
However, I read that the 528e started using the newer bosch motronic 1.1 system starting 3/87, and since the description of the motor just says "1987", it most likely has 1.1. I believe that my 325e uses bosch motronic 1.0 since it is a 1986 model year.
Will this be an issue? Can I still use my original ecu and wire harness?
