    An injector discussion thread........

So I am starting this thread in response to the siderail discussion in the thread just below about the best cam for 11:1 stroker. I got intrigued reading the thread so I went out to the junkyard and copped a set of bosch 0280155-771. These are gen 3 plastic body 4 pintle design. Google research has some sites selling them as 17lb/hr whereas some bosch threads list them as 14.37lb/hr at 3bar.

Anyway I cleaned up a set (can be found in 98-00 mercury mystique/ford contour) and put them in tonight. After a good seafoam soaking I hooked a hose up to them and clamped it snuggly with hose clamp. I filled the hose with a squirt of carb cleaner and put pressure on it by blowing on it. I pulsed em with a 9volt. This was mainly to clean them but it gave me benefit of analyzing the spray pattern. The angle is very narrow. Id estimate that tobget a one inch spread the injector would have to be 5-6 inches away. Given our valve size of 38mm (roughly an inch and hair) and distance 2-3 inches im confident in saying that the fuel is spraying directly on the valves.

Anyway i put them in. The fit is spot on and they run very nice. They dont seem to be rich so im leaning toward the faft that they are 14lb/hr but cant be sure. No more super loud tick haha. I guess ibcould increase them to 3.5 bar if need be to get to 17lbs but no reason currently. I am running an ebay tune that is fairly lean on wot table running high 14 afrs through upper ranges with conservative timing. I have another tune that is completely different. Its for stock injectors and runs much richer at wot with lots of ignition advance. I will try it out next week perhaps but for now i want to see what my mileage is like without changing anything else. I filled up tonight and got 17.5mpg all city on last tank. Crossing mybfingers for atleast a small bump. Discuss.

Information on 0 280 155 771 injectors at these links. According to the first sheet they flow heptan at 18.1lb/hr. Another claims 196 l/min or 18.6 lb/hr. Note I posted some ads for them for the information. I am in no way affiliated with any site selling these. Hell i took em out of some ratty ass fords at the junkyard.

I've been debating on these, They're 17 lbs/hr @ 3 BAR. I read it in a bosch injector data PDF a while back.
which means, on an I at 2.5 bar it will be 15.4 lb/hr. Only slightly more rich than stock. Within limits for Motronic to correct the mixture.
Again, part number 0280155771. There's no dash

Yea i just included the dash because really the last three are the most important part of the part number. Thanks for veryfying they are 17lb/hr. Yeah stepping them down to an e fpr would do the trick for sure. Im not foing to touch mine yet. It ran so fantastically good last night just plug and play. Damn I wish i had a wideband. Anyway i have a chip reader so I can always scale them in that way if need be.

Not sure what duty cycle is on these at 14lb but im assuming its stock like and as some people have mentioned can get above 80%. Ive always been under the assumption that injectors really shouldnt be run over 80% duty cycle but i could be wrong.

Update 1. I know its a soon update but its worth a post. Made my morning commute this morning as usual. Its 6 miles through the city of New Orleans. Traffic is usually medium with no real backups. Lots of stop lights. These injectors make a quite noticeable difference in part throttle response and power. For instance whereas before in 3rd or 4th running at 1500-2000 rpm almost lugging then hitting the throttle the car would flat spot pretty good until it caught up so to say. That has nearly been eliminated.

Also I got gas last night and reset my OBC. Its reading 18.9mpg now. This is with approx 10 miles all city stoplight to stoplight. I hit all the normal ones this morning too. Normally before it would be reading around 16-17.

          Hope springs eternal.

Took the e30 to jackson miss to pick up some sport seats and help a friend get a couple of e30s running. Anyway i fixed his autoX e30 using some of the 771s in his car due to a dead injector. I took em out of a 1998 cougar. Later model cougars have white top gen threes but theybuse a different clip. Anyway theybrun great in his car. I dont know my mileage 100% yet because i havent gotten fuel (still here) but the obc is indicating 24.5. Thats about 60-70 city and 180 or so highway. My obc underestimates consistently though so im hoping its 26-27.

Update. Just got back home from mississippi. My e30 is defying logic and physics again. So i filled up in jackson right hitting the interstate. 24.5 mpg. Not bad for about 1/3 city 2/3 highway. Really good actually. Then when i got back to new orleans i filled up immediately (185 miles all interstate) and got 22.5 mpg. All i can figure was i was hauling more ass trying to get home. I did go on avg about 5 mph faster. We had a little heavier load on way back but not by much. I figured even going faster (80) the mileage would be atleast 24-25. The obc even increased to 25 mpg whereas on the way up it stabilized on 24.5.
