    Long Start Issue

Hey guys I've been having this problem for a long time and its been progressing slowly. I took out this m20 and "rebuilt it" with my dad (all new seals, cleaned carbon build up).

My issue is the car won't start some times, doesn't matter if its cold or warm. You can crank it for 15 seconds and it won't start, ill turn the key off try again for 5 seconds, then off and try again and it'll start. In other words i have to try 3 different times cranking to get this thing started, sometimes even more! So far I've replaced the fuel pressure regulator, fuel pump with some shit $40 ebay model, and have swapped the 2 relays around, the 2 that have the same part numbers of course. I was thinking possibly buy a new crank position sensor next but those things are expensive! Might buy a new OEM fuel pump too. Next time it does this (about every day to every other day) ill take a spark plug out and look for spark, though i think its a fuel issue. Thanks!

      Starting issues

I was having a similiar problem and replaced almost everything based on forum suggestions. I believe what solved my starting issues was replacing the rebuilt e30 injectors with rebuilt e36 injectors. I think the e30 injectors were slowly leaking causing the engine to flood.

There are so many possibilities of what could by the root cause. The following thread was started by someone with the same problem and has many great suggestions from some of the forum experts including Jim Levie.

My car cut of today while driving on the freeway for about 5 seconds, though my gas light was on, it's done this before with a almost full tank. Thanks for the suggestion on the fuel injectors, ill probably get a set at the junk yard and clean them up the best I can/ buy seals off pelican parts.

          Long Start Issue

Was driving and cut out while gas was full.
Will start first try and other times you have to crank 5 seprate times. If you hold the crank it won't start you have to go back to the off position and try again, so how people say "if it doesn't start in a 15 sec. Crank it's not going to start" doesn't apply here...

          Replaced the:
-Fuel pump, swaped for oem instead of the new aftermarket 1/25/14
-Coil 1/27/14, though it seems I be a fuel issue, just had an extra coil laying around.
          -spark plugs last month
-oil change today, just thought you guys should know I'm doing maintenance :)
          -new relays
          -fuel pressure regulator

But if anyone can lead me in the right direction, I think I'll do the fuel injector comment TC said when I find some at the junk yard and rebuild those. I feel like the fuel pump doesn't prime before you start but the system 100% holds pressure because gas goes all over when you change the pump.

Ya nikita was suppose to help out everyday and then it went to cleaning parts, and then not showing up at all. My dad saw he had no interest so didnt take as much time as he did between mine and his e30. I forgot to mention the times he was there he didnt label were each bolt went in bags, just threw them all together in a pile. I guess my dad knew were majority went just made it that much harder. He seemed most interested in painting the valve and intake manifold, and they didnt come out the best i must say :nice:

What would you guys say is a "normal" time to start up? Mine feels to me like it's taking a long time, but I haven't timed it. It's probably 5 seconds or so.
