Hi All,
I'm in the process of getting my e30 as reliable as possible before heading off to medical school in the fall. I've been squaring away things like the brakes, suspension and basic engine tune up, belts ect. Very recently the motor started making two new sounds. One I think I've narrowed down to the timing belt rubbing against it's cover. It sounds exactly like this video posted by Earendil, which turned out to be just that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBYZMv4WYFo I've ordered new parts, and will be swapping them this week thanks to several great DIY's.
In addition, around the same time the motor began making a strange new rattling sound from deeper inside the engine at idle. It's hard to pinpoint where it's coming from, but it's definitely not the valves. I was hoping that if you guys listen to a quick video it might sound familiar. In the video it seems to be most easily heard around the 6 second mark. Anyway, without further ado, here's the link. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mt8n...ature=youtu.be
Thanks in advance for any help you guys can offer.
Cheers - Brian
