325i M20B25 sounds weird?

I have a 1990 325i with the 2.5 and 258k on the odometer. Original engine as far as I know.

It starts, drives, and runs great. When I open the hood I hear a strange engine sound and I am wondering if someone can diagnose it for me. You can't really hear it once the hood is closed.

The car idles normally.

Buy a set of feeler gauges and do it yourself! It's really not that hard. Google is your friend. There are many illustrated guides on how to do the valve lash on an M20.

M20 is noisy especially with the common issue of worn our valve guides.
