M20 E30 vs E34 - what differences?

an option for the 5 speed swap i am planning on doing is one from a 89 525i with an m20...he has the entire swap ready for me to buy BUT he measured the drive shaft at about 62 3/4 inches...isn't that longer than the drive shaft out of an e30? just curious as to if it would bolt up and work with my m50 swap...
