    Where does this ground belong?

Hey guys, the car is a 1986 BMW 325e. I was changing the Timing belt, water pump, belts, etc. My cousin was helping with some work and took this ground off from somewhere and forgot from where lol . Would you guys have any idea where this ground belongs?

Looks more like the valve cover to battery tray ground. Not really necessary.

This, oil pan to body is much larger. I would get a new one and put it back though, never a good idea to remove grounds.

I'm confused. Is there two grounds from the body to valve cover? I currently have one ground at the back of the engine.

Does the car crank? If not then its your oil pan lip to body ground (drivers side under your airbox area); reason being that, that ground is used by the starter motor. If your car cranks then its likely any one of the other grounds.

Agree it looks more like oil pan to body. Same twisted multi stand cable. Even looks like the insulation has perished after bring coated in years of oil. Battery tray to rocker cover has always been a pretty thin diameter cable on my cars. Not thicker, twisted multi strand like the oil pan one.
Just a little project im working on

Car cranks and starts right up. I'm thinking this belongs to the alternator, but wouldn't the alternator already be grounded with the metal bracket?

Yeah, I thought I saw this ground cable at the back of the alternator but my cousin kept saying it was from the front of the engine by the valve cover. I'll check it out.
