Coolant light on and running cold. Help!

Heater core has been leaking while sitting over winter. Car ran hot then I dumped half a jug of coolant in and coolant light now comes on but the temp only gets to the first line and hardly if ever goes a tiny bit past that. Could this be an open thermostat or something. And what does the coolant light overhead even mean. Low coolant I thought but I filled it up so much and even if it's losing a lot how does my engine stay cold?

The low coolant light being on when the reservoir is filled to the normal level will be a bad float switch, bad float switch connector, wiring fault, or a fault in the OBC. If you use a jumper to short the pins of the float switch and the light is out when the ignition is turned on the sensor is bad.

The low temperature reading sounds like a thermostat that has failed in the open position.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
