92 325i stumble at low revs

if you blip the gas at idle, the car seems to fall on its face for a second, then catch up. is this normal, or should i install new spark plugs/wires and look closer at the distributor?

Intake leaks are the most likely suspect. A smoke test will find them.

Since the distributor cap, rotor, and ignition wires have a service life of 10 years or 100k (just like all of the cooling system parts), they are almost certainly overdue for replacement.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Could also be fuel pressure issue. Check that. Could be clogged injectors, FPR, fuel filter or even pump not sending enough fuel.
