    Timing belt tensioner pulley

    Hi all,

As my other engine thread indicated, I'm an enthusiastic yet novice engine/car repair guy. When I reassembled my engine I followed all the steps closely. However, I think I made a mistake. Tell me how big a deal this is. When I let the spring loaded tensioner pulley loose to tighten up the timing belt I did not torque that bolt back down. Of course, everything is back together. Do I need to get that cover off and tighten the bolt? You guys will know off the cuff, can I get at it without taking off the accessory belts?

    Thanks again,

    Matt

Yes!!! The spring sets the tension and the bolt locks that in place. The spring then functions as a safety in the event the bolt loosens.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
