    Cylinder #1 not firing m20

    Cylinder #1 not firing
1988 325 ix. Car has been running terrible, lacking power and running rough. I changed all plugs, writes, coil, distributor and rotor. After driving for a while I pulled all the plugs and all but #1 looked normal. #1 was wet with fuel and did not have any color changing signs of ignition. I grounded the plug and observed a spark on the plug while connected to the ignition wire so it seems to have spark. I also ran a compression test and all cylinders checked out over 145 psi.

Do I not have enough fuel? Clogged injector?

If I let the engine run like this I also hear some popping every so often like a backfire but more of a pop through intake side.

    Any help?

Check the injector seal to see if it's seated properly; loosen the 4 fuel rail bolts and wiggle it while pushing downwards. This fixed my issue when I had one cylinder not firing with a wet plug.

I had the same problem with my girlfriends e30. It turned out that although I had fuel/spark and compression, due to a worn cam lobe, I wasn't getting sufficient air in and out to support combustion. Not a likely scenario, but something worth checking, since it only takes a few minutes to pull the valve cover.

A persistent miss on a single cylinder will be spark, injection, or a compression or valve problem.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Could it be that there is not enough of a spark? What's the best way to check this?

Pull that and an adjacent plug, ground the threads, and compare the spark while the engine is being cranked. Best to pull the other plug wires so that the engine can't run.
