    Ongoing Idle issues

1989 325i. Idle, running issues. Funny idle when started while engine is at operating temp. Also have a periodic loss off power mid acceleration. Took to a shop, they charged $250 and said that it was a dirty connection. It does idle a little smoother now at normal idle but still has loss of power. Also, after the accelerating issue, sometimes the engine light comes on. When scanned it says O2 sensor and or lambda sensor.
Almost all new parts on intake side of engine, as well as O2 sensor. Could this be coil or rotor plugs and rotor? Wires have not been replaced since I bought the car two years age, and I do not know when replaced....

had this same exact issue last month. The hose that leads from the valve cover to the intake manifold was split. The same codes popped up too when I scanned it. Replaced the hose (a little tough slipping it onto the intake manifold side since its a tight area there), but all was perfect after. Got my power back, no more CEL lights, which I used to get intermittently at stop lights, and good idle.

Your AFM could also be a little out of adjustment. It's easy to check with a multimeter, and putting it right is easy and costs nothing. But if you've never replaced your plug wires or any ignition parts....

I will be putting new ignition parts on this weekend, will update next week. I did a smoke test and nothing through that hose, but will inspect it up close too. Thanks everyone

Was the smoke test properly executed? That would mean plugging the exhaust, replacing the AFM with a plug containing a nipple for smoke injection, and holding an oil smoke pressure of 2-4psi for at least five minutes with no leaks.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
