    "Clacking" sound at 1,500-2,000rpm

The rest of the power range is quiet and even in the 1,700 range the power is smooth but this sound is nasty. My throw out bearing is pretty noisy at idle but the clutch is strong. If I feather it the bearing can be a lot quieter. Sounds like what I've heard from other cars when you're pushing it in lower rpms and the timing chain is slapping. I did the timing belt on mine 1,500 miles ago. And it was not necessary, I saved all the other parts because they are in such good condition. I had it on jackstands today and took it to second gear, 1,700 with my buddy outside the car and it doesn't make the noise when it's not under load. Pushing it uphill in 2nd, 1,700 it's "clacking". M20 gertrag 260 5 speed. Any idea's?
