    Ignition System Issue

Have been working out a spark issue on my 89 325i when I have had free time and have run to a stand still.

Primary resistance across (-) and (+) on ignition coil returns 1.2ohms

I have narrowed the high resistance down to the engine side as when checking pin 7 at the c101, battery voltage is present eliminating inside of the car?

When checking the resistance from the (-) post on the ignition to pin 1 on the dme connector. I'm receiving about 2ohms.

Where do I go from here? I'm relatively new to wiring troubleshooting.

Any help on the issue would be greatly appreciated!

    What symptoms are present?
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

No spark whatsoever. Engine cranks and fuel pressure is present, just does not have spark. I'm running out of ideas as to what is the culprit.

as it seems you have a DVOM what voltage are you getting at coil + when key is on or cranking? do you have a test light and know how to use it ? if so place it on coil + and if it lights ok key on and during cranking move it to the coil - and see if it flashes during cranking (this will test for ECU control signal at coil)

how are you testing spark output? have you check both at coil and a plug wire?

Checked at coil and plug wire. Coil puts out a little over 11 when cranking. This is what got me checking at the c101 where I'm getting proper battery voltage, thus my conclusion that the problem exists within the engine bay. Would a bad ground cause this?

"Coil puts out a little over 11 when cranking" eh? 11 what KV ?

voltage at coil terminals will be measured in volts (around 11-12V)
spark output can be measure with a gap style tester (or scope) and is measured in Kilo-volts (usually a minimum of 10-12 Kv)
