    m20 wont rev past 4k

    Hello!

just finished my 2.7 m20 build and i'm having a few problems.

    first problem:

When the car is running at idle and you quickly open the throttle the Rpms drop and the car wants to stall.
If you open the throttle slowly this problem doesnt occur and the car revs as it should.

    second problem:

When driving the car it won't rev past 4000 Rpm and it feels like a revlimiter is cutting in. this happens in every gear.. You can keep pushing it and it will go beyond 4000 rpm but it just doenst give any power. You can hear this in the video i made.

Any suggestions what could cause this?

    setup:

    - 2.7 Seta block
    - 325i head with catcams camshaft
    - 19Lb ford injectors
    - full 325i intake and exhaust

    - New parts: fuelpump, fuel filter, distributor cap, Rotor, blue temp sensor
    - tried another ICV and AFM

All I hear is you shifting and talking.

Not the best video to demonstrate the problem.

Is this a new problem? Did it start with a certain parts change?

Spark blow out can cause similar symptoms. This is caused by the plug gap being to big.
A weak coil can also cause this.
Have you measured the resistance of your plug wires?
Is your crank trigger sensor loose? Any little vibrations will cause the signal to become erratic.
      Bad tank of gas?
Have you tested your Fuel Pressure Regulator?
Do you have a tuned chip to go with those 19lb injectors?

The cutout could be your crank position sensor as well. I had the same issue when I switched to Megasquirt, the computer wasn't getting a good enough signal and it was cutting off hard right at 4200. I moved my CPS as close as possible to the timing wheel without hitting, problem solved. Clean the sensor up too, they're magnetic and shit gets on them all the time.

If that doesn't work a new sensor could be in order.

        Early models do it better.

          Sorry for bad video.

i cleaned the cps and moved it as close as possible to the wheel

No i do not have a custom chip for the 19lb injectors. i bought a ecu from a guy who said it came off a 2.7 alpina. but it runs better with the original 2.5 ecu. I'm going to put in the stock injectors and hope that will solve the problem.

I installed the original injectors and the car runs better now. It doesnt sputter anymore beyond 4k.
But it feels like the car is not giving its full power.. feels slower than my m20b25 engine..
the block has been decked and the head resurfaced so im thinking my timing is retarded now because cam and crank are closer together? Can you change the ignition timing with a adjustable camgear or does this only affect the moment when the valves open and close?
