Okay so over the past few months ive experienced overheating problem after overheating problem. So now my entire cooling system is brand new except my aux fan did not work. I have my aux fan running now but the gauge still says it's overheating. I just let her run until the gauge was full on red and put my hand to the valve cover and it didn't nearly seem to be overheating at all. It wash it but seemed like normal engine temperature hot. So I've came to conclusion that my thermo gauge crapped out on me. So I was wondering what sensor that is or how to fix it?

I think there are two sensors at the bottom of the radiator, one sends temp to the gauge and one to the ecu. There might be one more next to the thermostat. If you had an air bubble stuck at the upper sensor it could be showing erratic temps.
Also the SI board batteries go bad and make the temp gauge stop working, I'm pretty sure it fails off, not on, but that could be the next place to start after new temp sender.

Does the upper radiator hose get warm/hot? That will tell you a little about your engine cooling system. It should get hot and firm (insert jokes here).
I'm assuming you have a e30 with a M20. If so, it's the brown top sensor on top of the thermostat on the top front of the motor. However, I've read a few posts where people have said it's not brown. It's definitely not the blue one, that's for sure. You can test by unplugging it while the engine is warm, this should make the gauge drop to the bottom when unplugged. If it drops, that's the sensor you are talking about.90 325i DD/Track
