    Throttle Body Rebuild Kit

    Hey All,
I'm bring an '89 325ix back to DD condition for my daughter. I did a smoke test this weekend and replaced a few old hoses with very slight cracks. There is still some smoke (just a very slight amount) coming out of the top of the throttle body under the throttle lever. I did a Google search for rebuild kits but didn't find anything. Anyone know if kits are available to rebuild the Throttle body?

Here is a pic of the engine for reference.

I think that there is just one gasket that goes between the intake manifold and the throttle body. I would try looking at the PCV hose that runs from the throttle body assembly to the valve cover, they tend to crack and fill with oil, choking out the engine and causing a higher than normal idle.

Edit: Those throttle bodys are pretty bulletproof.

Thanks for the suggestion. I replaced that with an OEM hose a few months ago, so I know that one is clean.

I'm trying to figure out a surging idle. RPM's stay low, but it feels like it lags and maybe misses, especially when it's in gear, like sitting at a stop light. When it's in park and just idling, it's a little better, but not by much.

I've cleaned all the injectors, did a smoke test, replaced the temp sensor. When I pulled the fuel rail to do the injectors, I was told that fuel would spray out because it's pressurized (I didn't pull the relay and crank it to de-pressurize it). No fuel sprayed out, like there was low fuel pressure. I'm replacing the fuel filter next before I do a pressure check.

I've had the car for 9 months, slowly working on updating everything. Everything seems to be original parts, so we've got a lot of 25 year old plastic and rubber parts that just need refreshing.

Yours has the older, more complicated style vacuum lines that come off the throttle body. I'd look more closely there and see if you have a vacuum leak or the check valve went bad or something like that. The later models have a much simplified vacuum system that does not connect to the intake boot and the throttle body only has one vacuum line boss on the side of it. The RealOEM site does not show that configuration on any year car, so it took me awhile to understand what the heck BMW did. For awhile, I thought the previous owner had done some kind of shadetree hack, but no, it is an engineering improvement.

Also, clean your IAC (the cylindrical thing attached ot the front-facing side of the throttle body)
