I usually replace the camshaft seal housing o-ring since you have to remove that housing to replace the camshaft oil seal.

I usually do NOT replace the crankshaft seal or the auxiliary shaft seal unless they are leaking - but that's my personal preference.

If you have stamped steel camshaft and auxiliary shaft gears - replace them. (with a 91 you should NOT have these)

If you have the old style head bolts, replace them with the torx style ones. (again, with a 91 you should already have the later style bolts.

You'll need some coolant, of course. The purists here like the BMW blue. And it's always a great time to inspect and replace any cooling system hoses that look bulged or weak.

The plastic clips on the front of the timing cover that hold the CPS and oil pressure sender wires usually break when I remove them. I always replace them as they're cheap enough.

Check your breather hose on the valve cover and replace if hardened or starting to split.

I also replace any improper clamps that have found their way onto the engine over time with the BMW correct ones. They are much easier on the hoses.

For your guibo / CSB job I'm pretty sure you'll need to drop some or all of the exhaust system.

If you drop ONLY the back portion you will want to replace the donut gaskets where the converter and the muffler sections meet. You may also need the bolts and nuts that hold the converter and muffler sections together if they're rusted together. It might also be time for the three rubber exhaust hangers to be replaced. The muffler hangers might give you some trouble if they're rusted.

If you drop the entire exhaust system in one piece you can ignore the converter to muffler section joint items - instead you'll want new gaskets for the downpipe to exhaust manifold joints and 6 new copper plated nuts to reattach the downpipes to the manifolds.
