Could I have done serious engine damage?

I was driving home, it was rush hour so there was a lot of traffic on the freeway.. My car started over heating because coolant was being burned from a leaky headgasket so I had to rev my engine in the middle of traffic to try and keep it from getting too hot (stupid but I was stuck) car already had a bad rocker & was running on what sounded like 3 cylinders, so starting the car would take a little while to build compresssion.. Turning the car off in the middle of traffic wasn't a good idea because it probably wouldn't have started up again.. So it's overheating and try to exit ASAP by putting my hazard lights and using the shoulder but I stopped immediately on the shoulder to let it cool down before exiting... As soon as I stopped I noticed the car was smoking from the cat profusely and the resoivor was about to explode.. I uncapped it a little let the steam out and cool down.. When it cooled down I started it up, exited and put water to temporarily refill the lost coolant.. Started up, engine cooled down and I got back on the freeway.. Traffic die down so I was able to coast but all of the sudden the engine started to lose power, white smoke poofed out the back and a loud clunk noise followed with oil light coming on and the engine cut off.. I pulled off to the side and tried to start it up to see what would happen and the starter will just spin, no cranking, nothing...

Could someone describe to me what may have happened? Could the rocker arm have completely shattered and blew my headgasket at the same time? I'm clueless!

    Sorry for writing so much!

Blown headgasket, possible cracked head, and likely a melted piston. Rocker arm has nothing to do with it.

    She's done now.

This. Time for engine swap. You shouldn't have even been driving that car in first place.
