    lol, at least the rag didn't get sucked into a cylinder, that would've sucked. could've been alot worse.

    when i was still working in a shop we got a saab in, can't remember what kind though. dude had been doing a valve cover gasket or something and left a rag laying ontop of the timing chain. ended up wrapping itself around a gear and made timing jump like a nba mega star. i think we ended up replacing all the valves

      uhhhhhh shit. None of the rags were sucked into the cylinders, but portions of a couple of them got caught between the valve and head. It was nothing drastic, maybe propped the valve open a milimeter. I don't know what the clearance is for M20 valve to piston at TDC... hope its not tight.

        unless it was a real thick part of the rag you'll probably be OK. if it was just the edge of the rag the valve probably just smooshed it

          nah it was just a small edge. Whatev. I could also easily justify accelerating my work on a mild s52 rebuild and swap :twisted: it's going to happen in a month or 2 anyway. I am sick of this m20.

          Sidenote: you cut up your e30. so sad.

            Closure: put it all back together - running nice and smooth. I think there was a vac leak around the oil return from the intake manifold.

            Now my ICV died :(

            Anyone have a spare "L" shape icv part number 13411286065? I have an autox on saturday

              Sorry to hear that guy

              N3ver lift and a bad ICV isn't a problem :D

              Try filling the ICV with carb cleaner or something similar and let it sit for like, an hour. Sometimes this will loosen up any carbon that might make it stick. Won't help for a bad electric motor though

              Also, it's cool, 80& of the car is going onto my next one (e36) so it wasn't a complete sacrifice

                Hahahaha yea, good thing I've been practicing the heel toe... wasn't too bad

                sidenote: the icv started working again. Ill leave it. It's not gummed up, turns freely. I have an e36 and cleaned that icv out a while ago so I cleaned the e30 icv when I first got it.

                Nice! the e36 is also a great chassis as I'm sure you know. Very different characteristics from the e30 but still fantastic. I have an AA S/C e36 with all the mods in the world on it. I love it to death.

                  e36 = ugly imo

                  on the other hand, e36 also equals a better/higherflowing area for the radiator to be mounted, the capability to run a 750i/1000+hp diff, 1k hp axles from DSS, more room for extra tire, can use a canton/milodon/whatever 7qt baffled rear sump oil pan, ect...

                  i prefer the look of e30's, but would rather have performance vs aesthetics considering how many issues i had with my car.

                  best of luck with yours though!
