Just another "My car wont start" thread (v2)

    Hi everyone

    I drive a 1987 325 and I am having a no start issue.

    Back story:
My battery finally started to lose energy while driving leaving me stranded on the streets. I bought a brand new battery, and a brand new Bosch alternator. Recharged the battery and drove about another week before my car died again. This time I assumed it was my starter, and that it was draining energy from my car when cranking. I bought and installed a brand new starter. At this point, my car stopped working. Whenever I turn the ignition, the car cranks but does not turn over.

    Since then, I have installed:
    new copper spark plugs
    (used) spark plug wires
    new distributor cap and rotor
    new ignition coil
new CPS - crank positioner sensor
    used (working) ECU

There is power to my ignition coil, and (using a volt meter) power to my spark plugs. My car continues to crank, and not turn over.

I do not smell gas- at least not as much as I would normally if my car were to start. From where I am now, does anyone have any ideas on what I can do next to try and pinpoint this issue?

    Appreciated

    got spark?

so you have power at the coil (i assume you tested key on and cranking with the voltmeter at the coil?) and have approx 12V

your comment "and (using a volt meter) power to my spark plugs" i dont know how exactly you did a test with a voltmeter as the spark output is in Kilovolts which DVOM's wont read ,you need a scope to test for Kv's. so assuming you dont have a scope do you actually have spark at the plugs or out the coil wire ? remove a sparkplug or use an old one and install it in one of the 6 plugwires and ground the plug on the valve cover and have someone crank the engine as you watch for spark at plug electrode tip (should have a nice fat spark crossing the gap). if no by spark at plugs themselves check coil output by removing wire from coil to dist cap at cap end and hold with insulated pliers about 1/16 inch away from valve cover and again watch for spark as someone cranks engine over.

lets start there ,let me know results
