M20 High Idle and MAF/sensor question

    Hi people

    I'm Mark, I don't own an E30, but I have an E28. Although I do love E30s :). My E28 is an Australian delivered 1983 520i, that's the m20 b20 with what I believe to be L/LE Jetronic management.

I have had this car sitting in my parents garage for almost 2 years now, waiting for some love. I haven't been able to get the engine to run right, as it idles quite high and is very loud. I bought a top end gasket kit and I am planning on replacing all the manifold gaskets and intake o rings.

Anywho, I was wondering whether the MAF's are interchangable between L Jetronic models, eg would a e21/30 323i maf be the same as the b20 maf? reason being it occurs to me that the maf could be the culprit. Also what about the idle control unit thingo next to the ecu? are these integchangable?

And lastly, where would I be able to find all the little senders one the thermostat housing such as the thermo time switch etc?

Thanks guys, I'm still trying to get my head around these engines

What is the Bosch part number on the AFM?

Idle issues are generally vacuum leaks though and the early M20's have fifty million hoses everywhere, so there's a lot of places to be looking. Get a smoke test done.
