Why can I hear air when I crank my m20 manually

    Hi guys

I'm currently respraying my valve cover for my m20, and I thought I should check my valve clearance. While doing so I found that when I crank it manually I can hear air pressure somewhere, which is weird? Is this normal? The motor is kinda hard to turn over too, I have to apply some decent pressure to turn it.

The car hasn't been started in a couple months as I'm currently doing it up as a project, if that makes any difference.

    Thanks guys

Thats fine. As the piston compresses the air it becomes harder to turn, the release off air is air exiting the valves. You can remove the spark plugs and it will be easy to turn.
