    coolant bleeding problem

Hey guys, i have a noob m20 problem that i need some help with. After replacing the coolant in my e30, I set out to bleed the system of air. To do this, i removed the bleeder screw, and left the reservoir cap open. (i bypassed the heater core so setting the heat to high wasn't necessary) anyway i start up the car, and at first i was releasing bubbles, but by now when i do this there are no bubbles coming from the coolant in the reservoir. anyway, the engine begins to heat up, and right about as the heat gauge gets to the halfway mark (after like 10 min), steam starts coming out of hole where the bleeder screw goes, and the reservoir starts overflowing, so i immediately turn the car off. Could you guys help me out with what i am doing wrong? Ive never done this to a car before so sorry for my ignorance, just asking for a little help. Also is the bleeder screw only meant to be cracked open, or all the way removed?
    thanks,
    Coleman

Search for jlevie's bleeding procedure on here. It's very thorough.

cliff notes version is fill each radiator hose from the bottom up as you attach them and Jack the front of the car up a few inches and then it will be alot quicker

If you don't want to do that than you just have to be patient and bleed it for a lot longer(or drive around the neighborhood and then bleed it)
Don't feel stupid I once replaced a head gasket only to find out I just didn't know how to bleed the system

In the future Google search your problem I have yet to find someone else that hasn't already had the same problems and asked the same question as me, just use different keywords
