Timing belt time on a new car. What else?

I searched around for similar threads but couldn't find anything cohesive. I'l try and update with links to howtos for future reference if i missed any.

I am about to bring my 'vert out of storage after only driving it for a month after purchase last year. I have access to a 2 post lift but i can only leave the car overnight for one night so i want to have as many things as possible on hand to minimize part runs.

    Timing belt parts:
    • Belt
    • Tensioner
    • Pin
    • Spring
    • Any way to determine if i have stamped or cast pullys before disabling the engine?
    • Other seals?

    Valve Adjustment:
    • Feeler Gauges
    • New cover gasket
    • Rocket Shaft Plugs: 4x 11331264519
    • Breather hose?

    Water Pump Replacement:
    • Water Pump
    • Thermostat
    • Additional gaskets?

    Fuel Lines:
    • 2x 13311288284 ?
    • 2 meters of 8mm ID hose?
    • Filter?
    • Strainer/Separator?
    • New tee?

Tracking down an 1L/500 mile oil leak:

Fuel economy seems low. Anything i should look into for that?

Cam seals, cam seal o-ring, crank seal, crank case gasket, all this can be done on jack stands so you don't rush the job and make sure is done right.

By crank case gasket, do you mean 11141432240?

You should be able to reuse the spring and pin, however mine were missing. They're only $1 and $4.

I don't think there is any way of determining if you have stamped or cast sprockets (the ones in question are the camshaft sprocket and intermediate shaft (oil drive) sprocket). Once the distributor cap is off you can see some of the camshaft sprocket but there's a dust cap (which you can't take off until you take off the bolt holding the camshaft sprocket) which prevents you from seeing if its stamped or not. When I got to that part I was sure it was stamped but once the dust cap came off it was actually cast. My intermediate shaft sprocket on the other hand was stamped. And you can't see it until you take off the lower timing belt cover, but by the time you reach that point you're ready to take off the timing belt.

If you're doing the valve cover gasket, DON'T FORGET THE ROCKER SHAFT PLUGS!!! You'll need 4 of 11331264519. The new ones should fit nice and tight in there. I've heard of people getting ones that are loose, that's not good. I got mine from Turner.

Also, if you've got a lot of tapping and a valve adjustment isn't helping, I hear new eccentrics may help (because the old ones wear a grove that the feeler gauge goes right over). I just put new ones in but haven't run the engine yet with them so I can't say if it helped.

Alternator and PS Belts and coolant hoses if any of those need replacing. I did mine recently and it was well worth the time to remove the hood and the radiator to have better access from the front, saved a ton of time and effort.

Also the rotor and distributor cap if they need replacing.

This is the first time I've tried to do any sort of build on something that isn't a diesel. What does the world of higher performance cap/rotor/wires/coil look like?

I don't think there is much in the world of higher performance cap/rotor, but you can get performance spark plug wires (8mm instead of the usual 7mm). bavauto and turnermotorsport carry them, and probably other places too

The $200 bavauto 8mm wires are junk and worthless upgrade. You'll be fine with Bosch.

ECS Tuning has good prices on OEM quality parts.
