I would like to know, before I replace my fan clutch (I am intending to), if the aux fan is supposed to switch on to help with the cooling of the car. I have tested the fan clutch with rolled up newspaper, and when the car is hot, it does take a while to stop completely.
What happens is this, while driving the temp gauge remains at exactly 12'o clock position (Dead Center). When I am coasting and using the engine as braking or slowing down, the temp gauge creeps down a few millimeters, and as soon as I start driving it creeps back up to dead center. After stopping at maybe 2 or 3 traffic lights, the temp gauge goes up about 3 millimeters away from dead center while idling and that is when the Aux fan kicks in and brings it back to the center. The gauge never goes to the 3/4 mark at all.
Is this how the aux fan supposed to function in addition to switching on with A/C, has the Aux fan been saving me or will the same thing happen after changing my fan clutch?
