early m20b27 idle computer the same as 318i?

i picked up a 85 m20 last night and it came with just about everything i need except the green idle computer under the dash.
i have one from my m10 that was somewhat newer, will it work?

i know they are different part numbers but teh pin is the same and i had a m20 idle valve on a m10 and it worked just fine
    thanks

I doubt it. The M20 uses a sensor on the flywheel teeth for the engine speed input to the idle computer whereas the M10 uses a signal from the ignition control module. It's highly unlikely they're the same number of pulses/rev which is what the idle computer uses to determine if it needs to speed up or slow down the engine.
