    Another M20 issue.

So over the last week an issue has started to arise with my 89' 325iX.
It's started having an issue just cruising down the road and it was like the engine just cut out for a quick second. It's started getting more and more consistent and now my car can't even idle. When the "hesitated" the CEL would flash on for a quick second. So I check the codes. There was code for a fuel pump relay, fault lamp, injectors 2 4 6, and tank vent system.

Tried replacing the fuel pump relay no difference. I was think there might be a AFM problem or TPS. It has a new o2 and FPR.

I had a similar issue, random dying and check engine light. Finally checked the fusible link in the the secondary battery cable and it was corroded. Reduced voltage just enough to kill the engine and then it would start right back up and run for minutes or hours.
I replaced it with a 50A and haven't had any trouble since.
      Hope this helps.

So, pretty sure I figured out what happened. My car has been sitting at my shop for like 6 months. Everyday it would get pulled in and out of the shop and got loaded up pretty bad. Well engine get loaded up pretty bad will get fuel in the oil and thin it out a lot. Thus creating a bunch of blow by. Well the blow by saturated AFM in oil. Clean it off, voila! Run's like a champ again. I'm not sure if that's exactly what happened but, theoretically it sounds pretty good to me. I'm stickin' to it!

Excessive blow-by might mean your rings are also about done....what mileage do you have on the motor?

I would also take it out and flog the hell out of it when you get a chance. Get the engine up to operating temp and go for an hour or so jaunt....change the oil afterwards, also check your oil/air evac system...valve cover to TB and make sure there isn't excessive oil in your TB. It is supposed to go back into the motor to be burned, but if it is making its way to your intake boot and to your AFM, you might have another issue. Might be a good time to remove your intake/tb, oil dump tube and replace the gaskets/o rings.
