    2 Questions about my pistons...

    1. N00b status are they really seta pistons? They have a deeper dish than the i ones are they seta?

    2. Theres a 1/16th deep ding in the side of 1 of my pistons skirts and i wanted to know if theres anyway to fix it. Also i wanted to know it would be safe to run that piston with the ding. ( which i doubt ) If anyone has any ideas or info they can share with me on my problem i would appriciate it. Heres some pics of the pistons and the garage.

Got some progess done, freeze plugs out, and all acc's, plus head are off.

    Are these seta pistons?

And finally what should i do about this ding?

    thanks

        Mine have the same indent.

I think it's suppose to be like that.

I'm here with Mike and he also agrees that those pistons are from a Super ETA. Dunno about the ding tho.

I'm pretty sure those are just valve reliefs - mine had them in exactly the same spot and size - I wondered the same thing.

The valves were spotless, so I don't think there was contact.

Can someone tell Sean to please stop commenting about the freakin valve reliefs and address this guy's issue about the ding on ONE of his pistons' SKIRTS?

I'm not to sure my opinon on that ding, its on the load sides of a piston that ride down the walls, but it is also below the rings so it shouldn't hamper compression/oiling issues. Was the motor pulled out for a specifc reason like engine noise? If so then maybe think about replacing the piston. If not head to a machine shop to have it checked out and have a machinist's opinon as i'm only a mechanic and i don't build motors all to often and generally they're with new parts :)

ps. you'll want that piston magnafluxed (checking for cracks) because there may be one on the back side of that dent. btw how does the cylinder wall for that piston look?

Cynlinder walls looked normal. Compression was perfect. Motor was stripped down 2 be shipped and rebuilt. Ran fine though. I just dont know what i should do. Ima gonna swing by a bmw racecar shop down here in miami and see what they say.

Ah, I never saw that ding, apologize for that.

Yea, I have no idea about that.

I looked at my pistons again, and I have two valve reliefs on the side with the small one - looks like a timing belt blew on my car at one point - that's the only thing I can think of. The pistons are fin, even though they have that second indent on em. I'll get pics up sometime.

Have an engine shop look at it, they could tell you something probably.
