Wont start, Cranks but No Spark

Heyo so ill give a little run down on where im at right now. Yesterday I ran out of gas on the road then had a buddy bring me about a gallon and i drove to the gas station and put $15 in her and got just about 5 gallons. I got back home for about a half hour then went back out and only a few minutes down the road she shut off randomly and i coasted to a stop sign, i tried turning over the engine and it didnt go so i took out the key and tried again she went over. After that she was driving fine, then today I started her up in the morning and let her warm up to only find that she died off about 5 minutes later. I let her sit for a moment then tried again and she ran alright, I decided to take off/clean my ICV and got it all back together then even got to drive her around town for a little so I thought I was all good. I left my windows down during the day and when i went back out tonight to close them up I noticed I locked up my steering wheel after finally unlocking it I tried turning the engine over and she just sits there and cranks with no spark. I have work tomorrow and need to get back on the road as soon as possible and was wondering what my next best bet would be to fix this issue. As always thank you guys, its much appreciated

Ive tried doing some research and Im going to test the ignition coil tomorrow but was also thinking could my fuel filter be shot/ have air in the lines due to running out of gas.

Check for voltage at the battery first if you haven't already, just to be sure

If you don't have a bentley yet, get one. easy way to check for fuel is to pop the hose off the fuel pressure regulator like this


if you are getting fuel but no spark its in the ignition system somewhere. Check the coil from the middle post to the + post, should be 5k ohms resistance. There is another test in the bentley to check for voltage to the coil, I may have time to look it up. If the coil checks out, check all the plug wires by sticking your leads into both ends of the spark plug wires. Like take off the cylinder 6, or 1, or 3, etc wire from the plug and from the distributor, it may take a bit to get a solid connection on each, be patient before you rule them out if you don't get a reading.

If those check out check out the distributor cap and rotor. I had a no spark situation and although replacing those didn't solve the engine from starting, they were really burnt and carbonized, and when testing the rotor I couldn't get a reading. Good luck!

Hey! Thanks for the reply so I did more troubleshooting today and realized I was getting spark when I grounded a spark plug (got a nice little blue spark) then came to the conclusion that it had to be a fuel problem so I tried the fuel pressure regulator trick and got nothing not a drip so now im stuck on weather its my Fuel Pump, Fuel Filter, or Fuses (but my fuses are botched up from previous owner swap around, will post pics if wanted) Thanks!

Sound like a fuel filter to me,if you ran out of gas,you may have got some trash in the lines and filter..I'd start there!

Update!



Above is how I got my fuse box havent touched any of them.
Unsure on how to check my fuel delivery fuses #9 #10 #11 and #21 because they seem to be all over the place and dont seem to match up properly.

Also was told to check my Fuel Pump Relay but with the swap that was done this is how my relays are right now just sitting around all unorganized, Which one would be my FPR?






I got the idea its most likely not the white one,
What would be my best plan of action towards this? Im getting Crank,Spark, just no fuel

I can't see the pics because I'm in school but the fuel relay is an orange bosch block with four contacts on the bottom, the white one is main relay that goes on the left near the front of the engine. It goes WHITE ORANGE ORANGE To test just the pump jump the fuel pump, jump the socket 30 and 87. the numbers are on the bottom of the relay, make sure you you get the orientation correct! It's the one closest to the driver side fender and the other one is the one closest to the front of the engine. If the pump clicks then it should be OK. I've never done the fuel test and jumped it at the same time, but it may send fuel? Another test you need to do is to check the relay terminal 30 to ground. Check the bottom of the relay again and make sure you know where it is! I'm not sure if you need the igniton on, try it first with it off and then if you get no voltage/ light if you are using a test light turn the ignition to position 2 and check again. Make sure you have a good ground, get at least 3 different spots before you make a conclusion if it's not getting approximately battery voltage. If it's not getting voltage to terminal 30 it is probably the fusible link. The bentely says "If no voltage is present at the red 1.5mm or 4.0mm wires on the junction block (relay holder), inspect the fusible link.

Next test. Ignition off, use your meter to go between 85 (-) and 86 (+). Hit the starter and there should be battery voltage, if there isn't, power isn't reaching the fuel pump. If these tests pass it's probs just the relay. Coincidentally I'm diagnosing the same problem! My tests passed and I just need to order a relay and hopefully it will solve it. Both my orange ones look bad so I'm gonna get both.
