    Engine not running right after Autocross

    Last weekend during autocross something happened to my 325is, I'm pretty sure whatever it was happened at red line. The car lost all it's power, it sounds almost gurgally over 2.5k - 3k, there is a miss. When I try to start the car when it is cold it will die unless I get on the throttle for a little bit.

    I pulled the spark plugs to do a compression test, #1 was covered in carbon and #2 smelt like fuel. The other 4 looked normal, also these plugs are brand new less than 500 mi on them. I did the compression test and all the cylinders were somewhere around 150 psi, so that's good. I just pulled everything off the timing belt to see if I jumped a tooth or something but no luck, both the alignment marks line up. The distributor and rotor were replaced when the spark plugs were replaced.

    I'm at a loss now, any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

      If your plugs are covered in carbon and wet fuel then I would check the injectors for leakage. It is dumping way too much fuel into the cylinders.

        The injectors don't look like they are leaking from the outside. I guess I will have to pop them out to see what's happening there. I did get them cleaned about 2 months ago and the impedance on all the injectors was good then. I'll consult my Bentley and test them again.

          Testing the injectors might be trickier than one would think. They might test fine on the bench, but then they leak under normal operating pressure. The only easy DIY way of testing them (without expensive machine) is to find a fuel rail and connect it to an air compressor to supply the pressure. Use a 12 V external power to pulse open and close the injectors then watch for leakage under pressure.

            Short of that, would switching the injectors from cylinders 1 & 2 (suspect) to 5 & 6 (known good) and seeing if the plugs on 5&6 get fouled up determine if those are problem injectors?
